Macmahon has a 6.5 year contract to perform all limestone mining activities at Lafarge's Ewekoro cement plant in Nigeria. The current contract also contains an option for Lafarge to extend Macmahon's services for a further two years.
Macmahon undertakes a broad scope of work at the Ewekoro site, including overburden removal of all soil, clay and mineral materials to enable limestone of suitable quality to be exposed for blasting and the clearing and grubbing of vegetation. Macmahon also conducts drill and blast activities, the excavation and transport of limestone and shale material to the Lafarge crushing plants, and the upgrade and maintenance of quarry roads.
The scope of work also includes other support activities at the site such as block breaking operations, water spraying for limitation of dust emissions and refuelling operations.
