In 2026, INWED marks its 13th year with the theme Engineering Intelligence.
This year’s celebrations highlighted the women applying creativity, expertise and determination to solve complex challenges, drive innovation and create positive change across industries and communities.

As part of our celebration, we asked some of our female engineers a series of questions to learn more about their experiences, insights and what inspires them in their engineering careers.
NOELIA LOPEZ – EVA COPPER PROJECT
What inspired you to become an engineer? A mix of parent and family influence, as most of my relatives are engineers, although in different disciplines.
What do you enjoy most about your role? The constant challenges and stimulation that come with each project.
What’s the most surprising thing about working in engineering? The opportunities my career has brought me and the places it has taken me are some of the things I value most.
It has given me the chance to work on a wide range of projects and with different cultures, which constantly challenges my adaptability.”
What’s one myth about engineers you’d like to bust? That engineering is just about numbers and calculations. Engineering is about being creative.
MARIBEL GOMEZ – ISON ROAD PROJECT
What inspired you to become an engineer? I’ve always been drawn to the idea of combining creativity with problem solving. Engineering offered the perfect balance – a career that challenges me to think critically while creating practical solutions that make a real difference.
What do you enjoy most about your role? No two projects are ever the same, and that’s what keeps the work interesting. I enjoy taking an idea from concept through to delivery and seeing it become something that serves a real purpose. Every challenge is also an opportunity to learn something new, both technically and creatively.
What’s the most surprising thing about working in engineering? People often think engineering is about technical expertise, but it’s just as much about collaboration and communication. Understanding the real problem, weighing up different options and working closely with others are all part of finding the best outcome.
I’ve also learned that the industry never stands still, so there’s always something new to learn.”
