Macmahon was awarded a three-year mining contract for the Greenfield Byerwen Coal Mine open-cut project, with operations commencing in August 2017. Macmahon has been awarded multiple contract extensions, and a Notice of Award extending to October 2028.
The hard-coking coal project is located near Glenden in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
Macmahon undertakes all mining operations at the Byerwen Project, including drilling, blast design, load and haul, haul road maintenance and mobile plant maintenance.
The expansion of the contract will significantly increase production from five to 10 million tonnes of hard coking coal per annum. Financially, the revenue from the contract is likely to exceed $1 billion, with the current two-year option exercised to 2025.
