Meet Leon Tran
Building Infrastructure and Future Engineers

For Leon Tran, construction is more than just roads and bridges—it’s about problem-solving, collaboration, and leaving a lasting impact on communities. As a Construction Manager at Decmil, he is currently leading the Yan Yean Road Upgrade in Victoria, following his recent role as Structures Manager on the Ison Road Overpass project.

“I love the challenge of bringing a project from blueprint to reality. Every day presents a new problem to solve, and that’s what keeps me engaged.”

With over a decade in the industry, Leon has delivered major road, rail, and energy projects across Melbourne, regional Victoria, and even Darwin’s LNG sector. Since joining Decmil in 2019, he has played key roles in projects such as Plenty Road Stage Two, the Gippsland Line Upgrade, and Ison Road Overpass. His ability to manage complex, high-pressure environments was on full display in the Structures Rehabilitation Program, where he successfully delivered 10 road and rail occupations within tight deadlines, all while maintaining strict safety and programming requirements.

Beyond project delivery, Leon is committed to mentoring young engineers, helping them transition from academic theory to real-world construction.

“I had great mentors when I started out, and now I want to do the same for the next generation. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a young engineer grow in confidence and capability.”

When he’s not on-site, Leon stays just as active. He enjoys Muay Thai, futsal, pickleball, and running—having already conquered a half marathon and now training for a full marathon. He’s also an avid fisherman and football fan, proudly supporting Liverpool FC and the Essendon Bombers.

With a passion for both infrastructure and people, Leon continues to play a pivotal role in delivering projects that shape Victoria’s transport network—while helping to build the next generation of engineers along the way.
