Greenbushes Open Day
A Community Day to Remember

The Greenbushes Open Day has been a long-standing tradition for Talison Lithium, bringing together contractors, local community groups and families for a day of fun, learning and connection. The 2025 event marked the third year Macmahon has proudly participated.

For the Greenbushes team, the Open Day provided an opportunity to showcase the operation to families and the wider community. Children over eight are enjoyed bus tours around the mine, while the local sports ground came alive with activities for all ages, including from food vans, live music, bubble play, face painting and interactive contractor displays.

Macmahon’s simulator was once again a major attraction with a steady line of enthusiastic “trainee dump truck operators” waiting for their turn. Macmahon also had a strong team presence on the day:

Ben Milligan attending his first Open Day

Mike Azzaro demonstrating his cylinder heads with help from Josh Harvey, Apprentice Auto Electrician

Brendan Kane from Recruitment, Ellen Erceg from HR and Soa & Nidia from Strong Minds, Strong Mines

Chantelle McKay, who returned from her new role at KOTH to lend a hand

The event  would not have been possible without the commitment of many Macmahon people, who generously gave their time, often outside of work hours, to ensure the day’s success.

ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY

A key highlight was the “Guess the Daily Stats” competition which encouraged families to learn more about mining operations and what impacts production each day. Questions included:

  • What’s the average hang time for the diggers?
  • What’s the average queue time for trucks?
  • What’s our average truck production rates (BCM per hour)?
  • How many Macmahon employees work at Greenbushes?
  • How many thousand tonnes we would move in a 24-hour period?

Prizes included a custom-built Hitachi fire pit and Macmahon merchandise packs, including a cooler bag, Yeti water bottle, Yeti coffee cup and a Macmahon hoodie.

In addition, more than 300 gift bags were distributed to adults and children, containing a variety of branded and family friendly items such as water bottles, coffee cups, lolly bags, colouring sheets and pencils, wooden cut-out dozers, hats, beanies, stubby coolers, and Rubix cubes. All were gone by lunchtime, demonstrating the event’s growing popularity as the mine continues to expand.

Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive. Families praised the engaging activities and warm welcome, while children were especially captivated by the 2600 digger – many proudly expressing their hopes of operating one in the future. The production management team also noted the genuine interest and appreciation shown by the community.

The 2025 Open Day was a resounding success – a true team effort and a memorable way to strengthen connections with the community. Macmahon is proud of the contribution made by its people and the energy they brought to the day. With each year growing bigger than the last, Macmahon looks forward to helping to make the 2026 Open Day even better.
