With many of the 400-strong workforce at Macmahon’s long-term Byerwen project living in the Mackay region with their families, supporting local initiatives such as The Neighbourhood Hub helps create positive outcomes for employees, their families and the wider community.
The grant supported a range of family and parenting activities, including the Staying Calm Together workshop, which equipped parents and carers with practical strategies to understand children’s emotions, respond calmly during challenging moments and build stronger family relationships.
Participants reporting increased confidence, stronger connections and valuable practical tools they could apply at home.
The funding also enabled a community Yarning Circle, led by Mackay First Nations Elder Aunty Lyn, providing participants with the opportunity to learn about local bush tucker, cultural traditions and the rich history of the region. The welcoming environment encouraged meaningful conversations and strengthened understanding of local First Nations culture.
Recognised as a TNHUB Changemaker, the Macmahon Foundation is proud to support initiatives that build resilient, connected communities.
