Trade Upgrade Program

Program Overview
The Macmahon Trade Upgrade Program provides a clear and structured pathway for individuals who currently hold a Heavy Road Transport (HRT) qualification to transition into a career as a Mining Heavy Diesel (HD) Mechanic. This program is designed to bridge the trade competency gap and is recognised by a partner Registered Training Organisation (RTO), resulting in a Statement of Attainment (SOA) upon successful completion.
Training and Employment Details
Participants in the program will join Macmahon as permanent employees at the Level 1 tradespeople pay rate. The program begins with an induction and site orientation, followed by two blocks of technical training, totalling five weeks over a few months. During and after these training blocks, participants will:
Work on-site to complete their on-the-job (OTJ) experiential learning.
Provide evidence of their competencies to achieve full competency.
Program Duration
The complete program involves six weeks of technical training and orientation. Along with the OTJ experiential learning, the program typically lasts up to six months. Upon successful completion, participants graduate from the program, secure their tradesperson transfer, and move up in the pay band levels, embarking on their career as HD mechanics with Macmahon.
Training Locations
Participants have the flexibility to train and work in Western Australia (WA) or Queensland (Qld) within our Surface or Underground projects. This allows participants to choose their preferred living and working locations.
