Iline Cao joined Macmahon in January 2022 as a Graduate Engineer. She originally studied chemical engineering at university but was attracted to the opportunities in mining.
Iline chose Macmahon to start her career because of our dynamic working environments, specifically at the smaller sites across Australia and our larger operations in Indonesia. With family in Surabaya, Indonesia, Iline would like to work there one day too.
Starting her journey at Macmahon’s Mt Morgans operation operating haul trucks, Iline moved to Warrawoona, a smaller site – the perfect place to learn the ropes. She finds the site rewarding, particularly the daily progress she sees in the pit, and when Iline returns from R&R, she notices even more change, which is inspiring.
I have noticed significant development and growth in my career over the past 12 months, which is a direct result of the experienced professionals actively supporting me.”
Iline enjoyed assisting the Mining Engineer in short-term mine planning, where she contributed to coordinating daily mining activities, including data entry for monitoring the mine’s performance. Iline has also learned the fundamentals of drill and blast design and tie-ins, which she finds very exciting. She also loves spending time operating the drone! More recently, Iline completed her haul truck operations module and is currently focussing on drill and blast engineering.
Looking ahead, Iline is keen to gain field experience with the drill and blast crew and sees her future exploring different roles and pathways she can take as a qualified Mining Engineer.
Iline lives at home with her siblings in Perth. She currently works an 8:6 swing, which she loves for the long weekends, but she also misses some important events at home. When on R&R, Iline likes to go out to eat great food and squeeze in overseas trips.
