Located in the same region as the Leonora underground operations, the Leonora Blazers is a community basketball program supporting predominantly First Nations children and young people. More than a sporting club, the program provides a safe and supportive environment where participants develop confidence, life skills and a sense of purpose while building healthy relationships with teammates and mentors.
Many of the young people involved face significant socio-economic challenges and are considered at risk. Through basketball, the program encourages them to stay engaged at school, set personal goals and be accountable to one another. The wider community also benefits, with games bringing families and residents together to celebrate local achievement and connection.
During the year, Macmahon’s support helped fund uniforms and equipment, enabling multiple teams to travel across Western Australia to compete. We also donated a community bus, which will continue to be serviced by Macmahon, providing safe and reliable transport for training sessions and competitions throughout the season.
Our Leonora underground team further strengthened the partnership by attending the club’s end of season presentation to present player trophies, recognising the achievements and commitment of the young athletes.
