Ally Sumich
Senior Administrator, Perth Office

We are thrilled to share the inspiring career journey of Ally Sumich, who has been an integral part of the Macmahon team since May 2021. Her dedication, professionalism, and enthusiasm have earned her multiple promotions and have significantly contributed to our company's success.

Before joining Macmahon, Ally gained valuable experience in various administrative and managerial roles at Workpac/Rio Tinto, the Shire of Ashburton, and Bunnings. These experiences laid a solid foundation for her current role at Macmahon, where she has truly excelled.

Ally currently supports site administrators and roving operators across all WA Surface and Civil operations. Her role requires frequent travel, which she skilfully balances with her personal responsibilities. She often visits sites every fortnight when her children are with their dad, with trips ranging from overnight stays to several days, depending on the site’s needs.

When I first applied to Macmahon, I was relatively new to the mining industry and knew little about the company. The position I applied for was very similar to my previous site admin role, which I really enjoyed. When the recruiter mentioned that the Perth office had a gym with PT sessions and classes, I was sold!” said Ally.

Ally’s career advancements are a testament to her hard work and willingness to take on new challenges. Her role has evolved significantly since joining Macmahon, from setting up admin processes for new mining contracts to helping with project startups and now coordinating roving operators and site administrators.

I’ve always been a hard worker with a good work ethic, which was noticed early on by my managers. Whenever opportunities arose to expand into different areas of the business, I always said yes.”

Ally finds joy in interacting with admin across all projects and loves that no two days are ever the same. Her role allows her to support admin teams across all sites, ensuring their workloads are manageable and that they are working smarter, not harder. The most challenging aspect for her is balancing priorities when there’s a lot going on at once.

“My role is crucial in overseeing Site Administrators across Surface and Civil Projects in WA. I assist with hiring, training, and providing ongoing support for new and existing administrators. I also coordinate a team of roving administrators and operators who provide additional support during periods of high workload or staff vacancies.”

Ally has participated in several development programs, including the WIMWA Mentoring Program and Macmahon’s Winning Way Training for Leaders. She is also set to study for a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration with The Melbourne Business School, funded by Macmahon through the Study Assistance Program.

I’m really interested in the Business Development and Efficiency side of the business. For now, I’m very happy with my current role and its progression.”

“Being a site admin is a great role for someone who likes variety and keeping busy. If you have a background in admin and a great attitude, I highly encourage you to apply and give it a go!”

Ally enjoys a great work-life balance and loves spending quality time with her friends and family. In her free time, she enjoys beach outings with her kids, going to concerts and events with friends, coffee dates, watching the footy (she’s a big Dockers fan!), and travelling. She is currently looking forward to a girl’s trip to Singapore for the F1!

We are proud to have Ally as a part of our team and look forward to her continued success and contributions at Macmahon. Her story is a true reflection of dedication, growth, and the pursuit of excellence.
