Callum Broderick
Site Supervisor, Ison Road

When Callum Broderick came across to Decmil as a Site Supervisor, he was coming from a smaller company - and didn't expect the culture of a bigger contractor to feel as close-knit as it does.

Callum started as a subcontractor on the Ison Road project in Victoria and was given the opportunity to take on a new role with Decmil directly. As Site Supervisor, his job is to keep the works running smoothly, to quality and safety standards.

“My role on site is making sure the works are being done to a specified quality and safety standard. I supervise the crews, coordinate with engineering and safety, and make sure everyone is compliant and the materials are coming in.”

For Callum, the most important part of leading a crew is making sure the right people are in the right jobs – and that everyone is rowing in the same direction.

“The most important thing is having the right people for the right job. Everyone works really well together – from engineering to safety. You know there’s one team and one direction.”

Coming from a smaller business, he expected the move to feel more corporate. It didn’t.

“I came from a smaller company. I thought it wasn’t going to be as family-orientated as it is, but the company and the culture have been amazing.”

What he enjoys most is the daily evidence of the work – what the crew has built, the relationships he’s developed, and the quiet pride of driving past a finished job with his family.

“Seeing what the team achieves each day, and driving past the project knowing you helped build it, is something I’m really proud of.”

Callum’s story reflects what Decmil’s East team does well – building the kind of crews that lead from the front, look after each other, and leave something to be proud of.
