Jesse Anderton
Celebrates 15 years’ Service

Meet Jesse Anderton, a seasoned professional currently serving as a Jumbo Operator at Macmahon’s Deflector Mine in Western Australia.

Over his impressive 15-year tenure, Jesse’s career journey has been anything but ordinary. While he currently operates the Jumbo, the majority of his experience has been as a Long Hole Driller.

Starting off as a nipper/truck driver, Jesse never imagined that his path would see him mastering various roles such as bogger operator and long hole driller. “The best thing about my job is the people I get to work alongside,” he says with a smile, although he admits that working away from his family remains a tough challenge.

Over the years, Jesse has developed a powerful trifecta of skills—patience, organisation, and the ability to multitask. These qualities have been his secret weapons in navigating the demanding environment of the mining industry. Mentioning the remarkable shift towards a robust safety culture, Jesse notes, “The safety culture is a lot better these days.”

Jesse’s typical day kicks off at 4 a.m. with a solid breakfast before he takes on the responsibility of driving the crew bus to site. Once there, he suits up, plans his day, and has a handover with his cross-shift. After the morning meeting, it’s down into the portal and underground. Jesse preps his Jumbo, completes his Mac5, and then it’s drill, drill, drill until 5:30 p.m. Then it’s back to the surface, another handover, and driving back to camp. A hearty dinner, a shower, a call to his family, and Jesse is ready to recharge for the next day.

Ambitious and driven, Jesse has his eyes on greater heights within Macmahon. Eager to explore Macmahon’s leadership programs, he’s set his sights on advancing to a Shift Boss role, and eventually, Foreman.

Jesse encourages anyone considering joining the Macmahon Underground Team with this endorsement: “You will meet some talented people and make some great friends.”

Jesse Anderton’s 15-year journey is a testament to his dedication, resilience, and the ever-evolving spirit of growth within Macmahon. His story inspires not just his colleagues, but also those who aspire to make their mark in the mining industry.
