Rachel Chamberlain
Excavator Operator, Telfer

Ask Rachel Chamberlain to describe Macmahon in three words, and the answer comes back without hesitation: courage, respect, loyalty. After working her way up to Excavator Operator at the Telfer Gold Mine, she's earned the right to define the culture in her own terms.

Rachel started as a trainee operator and progressed to Excavator Operator – a step up she says is one of the things she’s most proud of. Now working a 2:2 roster on a Surface Mining crew, she’s hit her stride.

“I’m proud of how far I’ve come, from a Greenie Operator to now Excavator Operator.”

For Rachel, what makes the job is the people around her.

“I love working at Macmahon because of the people. I really enjoy the vibrant energy of my team.”

She brings that energy to every shift, and she’s clear-eyed about what winning looks like in her line of work.

“I love the energy of my team, and for me winning is simple: moving more tonnes than night shift.”

Outside of work, the 2:2 roster gives her the lifestyle she wants – deep sea fishing, running, and reading. It’s a balance she didn’t have before joining Macmahon, and one she rates as a key reason the job works for her.

Her advice for anyone considering a career in mining is simple.

“If you’re thinking of working for Macmahon, do it. They give you so many opportunities and the progression is endless.”

Rachel’s story is the Macmahon Surface Mining story in miniature – trainees backed to grow, teams that bring energy to every swing, and a roster that lets people build a life around the work.
