For those who don’t know, a Boilermaker is a highly skilled tradesperson who works with steel and other metals to fabricate and repair heavy equipment – think mine site infrastructure, underground shaft gear, and support equipment that keeps Australia’s mining operations moving. It’s hands-on, technical work that requires problem-solving, precision and pride.
Adrian’s journey is a true example of what’s possible at Macmahon – starting on the tools, moving up to Leading Hand in 2006, and then taking on the Workshop Supervisor role in 2015. Along the way, he’s helped deliver major projects around the country, including managing the installation of 16 custom-built weather towers for the Bureau of Meteorology – all designed and manufactured right here in our Adelaide workshop.
In 2023, the team took on one of their biggest local challenges yet – relocating the entire workshop to a new premises. “You don’t realise how much stuff you have until you need to move it!” Adrian laughs. But with the same can-do attitude that’s seen him through two decades of projects, he led the team through the transition with grit and determination.
These days, Adrian oversees a skilled crew that handles everything from mine shaft repair works to rebuilds of massive Raise Drilling rigs, underground man-riding equipment, and custom site-compliant vehicles. It’s tough work, but rewarding – and backed by 60 years of Macmahon’s legacy as a trusted Australian company.
I’ve stuck around this long because the people are solid and the work keeps evolving. There are always challenges – but we get through them together.”
Adrian’s story is a reminder that when you find a company that backs its people, invests in their growth, and believes in quality work – you can build something truly lasting.
Here’s to 25 years, Adrian – and the next generation of Tradespeople who’ll follow in your footsteps.
