Employee Spotlight:
Jessica Broom’s Remarkable Journey at Macmahon

We're excited to spotlight Jessica Broom, who has been making significant strides at Macmahon since February 2022. Her journey from an Admin Trainee to her current role as a Maintenance Scheduler showcases her dedication, adaptability, and passion for growth.

Jessica’s journey at Macmahon began as an Admin Trainee at the Perth Office in February 2022. She quickly moved through various roles, gaining diverse experience across the company including a secondment to Tropicana in the training department, and then to Telfer as a HSEQ Administrator, Material Logistics Officer and finally into her current position as Maintenance Scheduler.

Before joining Macmahon, Jessica worked at Woolworths and in the events industry. She was drawn to Macmahon by the opportunity to enter the mining industry through a traineeship. “I had always been interested in the FIFO lifestyle and heard through a friend Macmahon was a great company to work for – which I can now agree with 😊,” Jessica shares.

Jessica’s promotions were a result of her outstanding performance and the evolving needs of the business. “Due to business requirements and being a trainee admin, I was moved between departments and sites. A permanent position for Material Logistics Officer became available, and after speaking with the Maintenance Manager, I joined the team. After about a year in the MLO role, the opportunity arose for the Maintenance Scheduler position, to which I expressed my interest and was offered the role,” Jessica explains.

In her current role, Jessica supports the execution team by creating a weekly plan for asset servicing.

The team that I work with is supportive, easy-going, and able to have a laugh, which makes the days more enjoyable.”

Jessica finds that balancing priorities is a challenging aspect of her job, especially when liaising with supervisors and leading hands to prioritise breakdowns and planned maintenance. However, her role has significantly enhanced her problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. She has also become proficient in various software systems such as SAP, Microsoft Projects, InSite, and Roster On.

Jessica appreciates the structure of the Greenie program, which provided her with a solid understanding of the business processes. “I really enjoyed the structure of the traineeship program. Working within different departments at the Perth Office for three months before becoming site-based was beneficial. I am grateful to have had mentors who have been supportive and guided me to become more confident and trust my abilities,” Jessica reflects.

Jessica has participated in several development programs, including training in Microsoft Projects and Maintenance Planning and Scheduling. “I use this program every swing to build the weekly plan, so learning how to use the software correctly is an important aspect of this role,” she notes.

Looking ahead, Jessica aims to progress to a planning role as she continues to deepen her understanding of asset components and data analysis related to servicing and breakdowns.

I am enjoying my current role as a scheduler. Over time, as I continue to learn more, I would like to progress to a planning role.”

For anyone considering joining Macmahon, Jessica has this to say: “The maintenance department is a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment, which is evident through the team morale. There are many opportunities for development and growth of skills. My time at Telfer has been a great experience, and I’m pleased to say I’ve made lifelong friends.”

Outside of work, Jessica enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, cooking, and trying new restaurants. We are proud to have Jessica Broom as part of our team and look forward to her continued success and contributions at Macmahon. Her story is a testament to dedication, career growth, and the pursuit to Be More.
