Originally from South Africa, Maryke made the move to Australia in 2005 and wasted no time getting started. Macmahon was the very first company she interviewed with, and she knew straight away it was the right fit.
Her journey began in the Accounts Payable team before she moved into Accounts Receivable and later stepped up as Senior Accounts Administrator (2IC). But Maryke wasn’t done growing – not by a long shot.
In 2017, she embraced the challenge of a new environment and moved to the Tropicana site as a Site Administration. A year later, she took another leap – this time into operations – joining Telfer as a Trainee DTO.
She quickly mastered operating dump trucks, water carts and small loaders, proving that with the right mindset, you can take your career in any direction.
From there, Maryke trained as a Relief Dispatcher and later stepped into the role full-time. Most recently, she’s taken on the important role of Production Supervisor, where she now leads a production crew and ensures targets are met safely and efficiently. With her operating experience and deep understanding of fleet management systems, Maryke brings confidence, clarity and care to her leadership style.
Reflecting on her two decades with Macmahon, Maryke says it’s the people – and the opportunities – that have made the biggest impact.
Macmahon has been very supportive of my career changes over the years and has given me incredible opportunities. I’ve been lucky to work with amazing leaders who’ve shown me what great support looks like.”
As part of the Telfer team, Maryke says she feels a real sense of belonging.
“I feel honoured to work for a company that takes diversity and equality seriously and where I know I’m supported.”
Maryke has experienced both office-based and FIFO roles at Macmahon, but it’s FIFO that suits her best – giving her time to unwind, spend quality time with her dogs and catch up with friends during her R&R.
Of course, stepping into a leadership role comes with its challenges. For Maryke, it’s learning the finer details of people management, technical mining knowledge, and forward planning – but she’s embracing it all head-on.
Her leadership style? Lead by example, set clear expectations, and keep communication open.
“I have an open-door policy. I hold regular discussions about our Macmahon Values and encourage people to speak up and bring their best to work.”
Maryke’s journey is a powerful reminder of where hard work, resilience, and a willingness to grow can take you.
Building a successful career takes time, patience, understanding and determination. But if you stick with it – the sky’s the limit.”
Congratulations, Maryke – and thank you for 20 incredible years.
