Starting his mining career as a Trainee Dump Truck Operator for Alcoa at their Huntley mine site, AJ has worked hard to progress his career. His roles at Macmahon have included Production Manager and Drill & Blast Manager at Tropicana and a Project Manager at Mt Keith and Telfer.

Besides this promotion, my greatest achievement has been securing a successful contract extension at Telfer in a challenging environment.

AJ has achieved a lot in his time. Macmahon has enabled him to move between sites to strengthen his knowledge and receive mentoring from senior leaders. AJ thinks you should train your replacement and devise a plan if you’re looking to be promoted – this has obviously worked for him!

“Don’t underestimate yourself. If you want something, commit to it, have a plan and see it through,” says AJ.

AJ looks forward to keeping up the consistency across the sites, continuing Macmahon’s succession planning and developing the operations team. AJ values honesty, integrity and investing in people. He sees himself as a mentor.

I will lead by example, tell my story and empower people to get to where they want to in their career. Without our people, we are nothing.

In the future, AJ will be passing on the opportunities given to him in his career and when at home enjoys spending time with his family.
